Career Counseling and Mentoring:-
DPS Durg hosted a Career Orientation Program as part of their Leadership Series workshops which was attended by over 500 senior school students. The speaker of the session was Mr. Prikshit Dhanda, Director & Chief Strategy Officer at Mindler along with Mr. Vansh Nathani, Partner at Mindler.
Mr. Vivek Verma, the Pro Vice Chairman of the school , mentioned ,“At DPS Durg , we envision to enable our students to stay abreast with latest trends and have access to state of the art facilities to shape their future. Mindler is currently working with some of the leading schools/ institutes across the country and DPS Durg is setting the trend by bringing the revolutionary platform for students to Chhattisgarh. The orientation program is aimed at exposing students of Classes IX to XII about the emerging approach for career planning in today’s era. “
The workshop saw discussion on diverse set of career options, courses, new age careers, specific top colleges, competitive exam details, and how to make good career choices based on personal strengths, values, interests, emotional intelligence and abilities. Mr. Dhanda highlighted that the children should be guided from Grade IX onwards so that they have clarity on the interest of subjects that they would like to pursue. He also mentioned that the career mapping can start from Grade X onwards as an ongoing process. There was an impressive interaction between the parents and Mr. Dhanda, wherein a lot of queries were answered. Mr. Dhanda also talked about how the traditional view on stream selection is getting disrupted and how students are looking at varied combinations of subjects to pursue diverse set of careers. Numerous case studies were leveraged to drive home this point.
The Experts also emphasized on empowering the students to make the right career choices through team work between parents and school. They emphasized on the fact that there is a need to create a supportive and positive environment around the child so that the child learns to cope with failure and work towards success again. The need to remain inquisitive and focus on life skills was emphasized. Mr. Dhanda talked about the comprehensive psychometric profiling of students which would help to gain better insights into career options best suited for them.
Mr H. S. Batra, Member – Managing Committee, DPS Durg appreciated the parents and students for attending this workshop in large numbers. He said it was heartening to see parents showing interest in new and evolving career options along with mainstream courses like engineering and medical sciences.
Parents of Prateek Verma of Class XII said, “We got an opportunity to know about the many conventional as well as unconventional careers our child can take up. We thank DPS Durg, specially the Principal for organizing this session for us.”
Mr. Anuapal Sagar, Principal DPS Durg said “Over a decade has been spent in creating a solid foundation for our students, and now we are building on that earlier infrastructure, providing additional opportunities for our students, strategic experiences, and mentoring and advising sessions to prepare them for college and career”. He also stressed that the parents should have an open mind regarding the various career fields and involve children in the career related decision making process.
