16th Annual Day Celebration at DPS DURG – A Report
DPS Durg celebrated its Sixteenth Annual Day on Thursday the 24th January, 2019 amidst great splender, mirth and zest. Hon’ble Shri T.S.Singh Deo, Cabinet Minister, Government of Chhattisgarh was the Hon’ble Chief Guest on the occasion. Among the other dignitaries present were Dr. Himanshu Dwivedi Managing Editor Haribhoomi & Member, Managing Committee, DPS Durg, Shri Vivek Varma Pro-Vice Chairman, and Mr. H.S. Batra, Member Managing Committee DPS Durg and Principal Mr. Anupal Sagar, members of the PTA, Press, parents and students.
The programme commenced with the welcome of the guests followed by the lighting of the Ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest Shri T.S.Singh Deo, accompanied by Principal and other eminent dignitaries. The Principal, Mr. Anupal Sagar welcomed the guests and gathering and shared the School’s achievements through Annual Report, of the past session. The students were given prizes for excellence in academics and sports. The Best House for the session 2017-2018 was won by the Shivalik House.
The Cultural Programme based on the theme “The Power of Silence” included Welcome Dance, Dance Drama Yoga Power of Serenity’ depicting the rejuvenation, and silent empowerment of the mind and body achieved through Yoga and Meditation, “Eminence of Hues”, was a portrayal of importance of colours and the effect its amalgamation creates.“Mobile Mania” was a mime, depicting the negative effects and impact that mobile phones have on humans, silently and consistently. The English skit, ‘Hellen Keller’ was an enactment of Helen Keller’s silent struggle leading to a resounding success, inspite of her speech and hearing impairment, with calm and poised support of her teacher.
The “Ecstasy of Love” was a Dance Drama portraying silent, deep felt intense love that a mother experiences for her child. “Facets of Life” showed us how the five elements panchtatwa i.e. air, water, fire, earth & space function silently and with their power strengthen both the environment and humans, “Kathak Duet” was a jugalbandi, a performance of Kathak dance on an equal footing, by two budding student soloists, to prove their mettle in a healthy contest. “Flamenco” was a scintillating Spanish, Dance performed by the Primary Students. Some of the previous year students - Anushka Pandey, Nayonika Bainik and Praveer Sinha of present class XII also gave their heart touching performance.
The Chief Guest in his address was superlative in his appreciation for the school’s facilities, academic deliverance, programmes devised, cultural and other activities offered to students. He stated that it was the very best and unmatched. He was highly appreciative of girl achievers being larger in numbers for receiving prizes. He hoped that henceforth boys would also equal them in numbers, in achievements.
The programme was conceived by Ms. Anjana Jha, Head Mistress, Primary Wing, the House Wardens-Dr. Lethika D. Nair, Ms. Lissy Santosh, Ms. Nandini Ghosh and executed by the Music Department comprising of Dr. Sharmishtha Nandy, Ms. Deepika Nandi, Mr. Subrato Baidya and Ms. Shraddha Kashyap.
The Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. K. S. Bisht, Headmaster, Senior Wing. The programme was compered by Ms. Zohra Husain & Ms. Seema Singh, In-charges-Activities and Ms. Moushumi Mukherjee-In-charge Examinations. The student anchors of the cultural programme were Khushi Mishra, Kajol Jamdare, Aviral Chaturvedi, Sayan Mitra, Drishti Singh, Bhavya Gupta and Gurbani Kaur Kalra. The programme culminated with the National Anthem.
